His next musical project was for I.N.S. RECORDS. Hoytus was involved with most of the arrangements and was a vocalist, played guitar, and played keyboard on many of the record company’s singles until early 1975. ---- When Hoytus moved to Sonoma County, California, in 1977, he worked with WILLIAM HERLY jazz trio, JEROME ARNOLD, GENE WILLIAMS and others. In 1978 he formed the band, FREE FALL. In 1979 his next band was GYPSY. While with Gypsy, he also worked with percussionist, PAUL STUBBLEBINE, on JAMES BLUEWOLF'S project called Strike the Drum with ROGER TROY, MIKE BRANDENBURG and others. Also at this time, Hoytus worked with MICKEY HART, of the Grateful Dead, on some of his own original material in a band called ALEGRIA. ---- after Gypsy disbanded, ALEGRIA II was formed, and worked with Mickey Hart on an album project. Next, Hoytus worked with the MAROON SOCIETY in Sonoma County. During this time, Hoytus was contacted by FLORA PURIM and AIRTO MOREIRA after they heard some of Hoytus' original material. They asked Hoytus to collaborate with them on material for their album, Humble People.
---- After moving back to his hometown of Kansas City for a few years, performing in duets and trios, Hoytus returned to California in the early 1990's., working with N.B. TWEEN and then the FILLMORE BLUES BAND. ---- His next project (1994) was his quintet, H.R.Q. which gathered momentum for three-plus years. After the "Q," Hoytus worked with ANANTA SKY in 2007 and continued to perform singles, duets and trios. At the present, Hoytus feels grateful to be working with a new quintet, playing material from his recently released CD, High Fly.
